Website Intelligence
We Believe..
..the formula to a successful Internet Marketing Strategy lies in good website intelligence
Website Intelligence – Foresight, Hindsight, Your Site, Their Site!
Running a successful Internet Marketing Strategy requires information from several sources. Just like the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) and the UK Intelligence Community Online have to gather information from many sources, anyone who is serious about website intelligence has to gather information from different sources. Why to we even bring these intelligence agencies into the conversation? Easy, as we were putting together intelligence to make this page rank, we ran into all three agencies that ranked for the same keyword phrase “website intelligence”. Anticipate the source, follow the data, then compile it to build your marketing strategy.
Sometimes the disparate sources of information become confusing, but, as in the real world of espionage mentioned above, to be effective, you have to follow the data, know what filters to set, and for success, put yourself into the way of traffic!
Server Log Statistics – Leverage the Information That You Already Have
There are many types of web servers. This shouldn’t stop you from gathering information from your website’s log. Now, you may already have some kind of statistics software available through your ISP. Maybe you’ll prefer to use something like Web Log Expert Professional or something similar.
What software you use is not as important as what information you glean, what trends you see, and how you implement your Internet Marketing Strategy after you see the results of what your logs are telling you! Some of the information you will find is: traffic cycles (or hits) to your website over days, weeks and months, which search engines are stopping by, and how frequently, which keywords people are using to find information on your website, and which pages served that need, and much, much more.
Google Analytics – Understand The Demographics of Your Customer – What Are They Looking For? How Long Do They Stay?
Google Analytics reports, together with Google’s Webmaster tools (in the next section) are one of the most phenomenal suites of free software. Here, Google is telling us what people were searching for, where they live, what their browser demographics are, how long they stayed on your website, whether they “bounced” out of your site, or browsed, and what page they came from, and where they went!
Other things that Google Analytics allows us to do is to do Navigational Analysis, work on landing page optimization, observe click patterns, and more. Setting up Google Analytics is a one time thing. You can get daily, weekly, or monthly reports so that you can react to traffic in an efficient manner.

Google Webmaster Tools – Now You Can Leverage What You Know Google Sees!
Google Webmaster Tools will sometimes give you more information than you really want to know! No really! Using Webmaster Tools, you can see Google’s view of your site, so you can diagnose and fix problems like broken links, page titles that are too short, duplicate content, and much more. In addition, webmaster tools tells you what pages rank for which keywords in Google, and which position they hold in the Search Engine Results Pages (SERPs). Guys, this is huge!
Webmaster tools also allows you to see what your robots.txt looks like, showing you any potential problems. One of my favorites is that google allows me to point webmaster tools in the direction of my HTML or XML sitemap. The interface also tells me when the last time my site map was read. This is huge! No more guessing!

Page Content – Content is King And Will Always Be! Write Content For Your Users, Not Search Engines!
Content often seems to be the most difficult part of a website! Yet, content is the precise reason for the World Wide Web in the first place! Add Organic Search Engine Optimization as the primary purpose into the mix, and even seasoned writers freeze! Consider this, if your content really investigates a topic by being practical, and informative, those reading your article or web page will gladly stay and read on! Develop an opinion, pointing out distinctive advantages. Add some muscle to your content by making recommendations that may just be innovative strategies! Then, make sure that you use a list of muscle words like the one Robin Nobles recommends in her article
While writing copy, remain factual. While preparing, follow whims! While brainstorming, be outrageous! There’s nothing wrong with that! Brainstorming doesn’t have to always focus on economical, feasible, and middle of the road! In one brainstorming (for writing) class I visited, the instructor said “there are no limits, no boxes to be stuck in, and no budgets!
