Money is tight, and small businesses are looking for the best dollar-to-dollar leverage. We believe that organic search engine optimization is the least expensive and single most effective tool that small businesses can use to set themselves on the same level of Internet market competition as their much larger counterparts. True, large companies may have much more money to throw at a marketing strategy, but search engines reward those who have the most money, rather those with the best content.
Think of it this way: why should a search engine entrust you with a top ranking? What is it about your page that is worthy of a higher ranking than that of your competition’s? As we go through the rest of the content on this page, we would like to ask you to come back to these two questions. Your answer may change!
The primary focus for your website pages should be content, content, content! Serve your customers what they want and need to hear in order to make an informed decision, and you will be rewarded with business. Prove to your customers that you are more interested in them making the right decision, than in their money, and your customers will reward you with their business. This is where many people don’t understand the difference between writing for Search Engines, and writing for readers. Follow me the other way around! Search engine optimization will only work if your content is worth reading. Your readers share with each other too. If they don’t, give them a venue to share on your website through a blog. It’s not that difficult!
Let’s examine the two main categories that make organic search engine optimization work: “On page factors” and “off page factors”. Sounds simple! Truth is, that each of the major search engines has about 200 things that they check on every page before they rank the top 30.
Web Intelligence Sniper uses cutting edge methods and tools to find the factors that bring our customers the best value for their marketing dollars. Don’t let others fool you. It’s no longer necessary to spend months with trial and error, guessing what the search engines would like to see. Once a keyword phrase is chosen, our methods tell us exactly which of the on-page-factors and off-page-factors we have to focus on first. These values can be drastically different from industry to industry and from keyword phrase to keyword phrase.
Organic Search Engine Optimization – On Page factors
Content is king! Always write content for your readers, not for a search engine! Serve your customers with worthy information, only then ask for their business.
About 15 to 20 percent of the 200 things that search engines look at specific to your page have to do with the code that a website designer puts together. The rest all has to do with content. Here are some things that you have to look for in your content:
- Is the content on your page really talking about the keyword phrase you are optimizing for?
- Do titles and subtitles speak to your keyword phrase?
- Does your content contain the words that the search engine associates with your keyword phrase?
Is your content unique on the web, or is it just copied from another source?
- Do the page titles and meta tags your web designer put into the code contain all the correct proportions of words that are appropriate to the optimization?
- Are there links on the page which refer to other pages with similar content?
- Do those links contain the correct wording in them that is both specific to your content, and the content on the page that they are pointing at?
- Do the captions to the pictures on the page contain the desired keyword phrase? Don’t forget the “alt text” which your web designer must put into the way of brail and other mechanical readers!
This list is by far not an exhaustive one, yet it gives you a good feel for several of the important things on a page. Now to the off-page-factors!
Organic Search Engine Optimization – Off Page Factors
Simply put, off-page factors have to do with pages that are pointing at the page in question. Yet, using organic search engine optimizaiton, each keyword phrase has a different ratio of on-page vs. off-page factors. Off-page factors can be as much as 30% to 70% or more of optimization factors. Web Intelligence Sniper can show you where resources are best placed.
Let’s list several things that can make or break your off-page optimization efforts:
