Googlebombs, “failure”, “miserable failure” and the dignity of the Oval Office
It’s ironic that one of my first posts should be about “weapons” in the search engines! As Web Intelligence Sniper, we intend to use our weapons to our advantage while helping our clients use web-based intelligence to compete in the markets of the Internet.
You may or may not know that a sniper will use an average of 1.5 bullets to every 100 that a soldier uses to achieve the same objective. Both soldiers have defined objectives. Both soldiers do what they are trained to do. In most every instance, there is collateral damage, and often, lives are lost.

Although Danny Sullivan has been blogging about Googlebombs and Presidents Bush and Obama, I’ve only recently become aware of the (I find) despicable actions of whoever it is that is causing our Presidents’ profile to appear as number 1 under “failure” and ‘miserable failure”. Seeing that both a Republican and Democrat are being targeted, infers to me, that it’s not really more than a prank. Yet, the search engines ARE changing things… Today, the 26th of january, I shot two images from my browser… what do you expect… I’m a sniper, no?
So, Google is finally doing something… likely at the behest of the administration, seeing that news agencies from Los Angeles to London are picking up on this embarassment to the Oval office. Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m A dual national, Swiss, and American, and I AM patriotic. When I see the American flag flying in the wind, I still get a lump in my throat.
President Bush often said that he didn’t even watch the evening news because of the spin that was put on what was happening. In a way, this is a similar example of deja vue all over again. Just on the web.
What I find interesting, is that the same Internet that helped put President Obama into office now, “at the will of the people” turns and bites him. Someone in teh administration finally got Danny Sullivan’s message, and likely made a couple of calls to Google.
Yahoo, on the other hand, hasn’t been quite as responsive. As the picture indicates, our President is still being “drug through the mud” because someone chooses to play games with the Oval Office.
I Do have to be careful though, as I was shooting these pictures on my desktop, I started laughing as I was uploading them to my blogging software becasue the names of the pictures ended up being failure_1 and failure_2! I caught my mind’s eye two files flying right along side Air Force One, and enjoying the thought of the sheer stupidity of it. On to more important things…

Years ago, after the inception of the internet, porn site started cropping in. True to form, long before President G.W. Bush came into the Oval Office, www.whitehouse.com fell into the hands of someone that wanted to benefit fromthe popularity of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. If you look at it today, although the website is no longer in the hands of the sex industry, a quick peek at the current content has little to do with preserving the dignity of the office of the President of the United States.

Even if Bush 43 would have had a “bad hair day”, he would have looked better than this… and I can guarantee you that this isn’t President Barack Obama in the picture either… My point? This website has nothing to do with the White House either. Yes, it’s a political site… yes, it’s lots better than what was there before. Yes, there is dignity to it. But, does it lend credibility to, increase the image of, and do justice to the home where the most powerful man in this nation, and shall I argue world lives? My vote would be no!
Danny, I would encourage all who can to contact the White Hose and have them take over all of the domains that have the words white house in them, with a possible exception for corporate websites of companies like white house diners, and the like.
I closing, I want to leave you with just one more thought. As a multi national, multi-cultural, trilingual guy that programs 13 different programming languages, happily married to an English girl who is also multi-national English / Swiss, born in Cyprus, living in America with 3 Russian / American daughters, I will argue that all cultures teach the language of dignity. All languages use words with which to communicate honor and dignity for their highest leaders. Ours should too.
Other variant is possible also
